Police officer wins constructive dismissal claim

A police officer has been awarded £440,000 by an employment tribunal after successfully claiming constructive dismissal from Gwent police, reports the Guardian.

The officer claimed he had become a “laughing stock” to his colleagues after he was involved in a car chase with a pensioner that culminated in the 74-year-old disabled man being dragged from his car.

The officer was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident, but video of the incident went viral and he continued to be ridiculed by colleagues.

He developed stress as a result of the situation and was removed from his front-line post. He subsequently resigned, after serving with the police for 16 years.
